The beautiful old market town of Nakskov, at the far end of Nakskov Fjord, acquired municipal privileges as far back as 1266. A fascinating town with old alleyways running from the harbour towards the town centre.
You will see a number of half-timbered merchant’s houses along the alleyways. The oldest is from 1588. Construction of the town’s magnificent church of St Nicholas, dedicated to the patron saint of sailors, began in 1200. This is the second-largest church in the diocese.

In the harbour you will find the U-359 Whisky-class submarine, now fitted out as a museum. It is fascinating to delve into life during the Cold War onboard the submarine.
Nakskov has one of the oldest pedestrian streets in Denmark, with a flourishing trade going on in the many speciality shops. There is live music in the town square every Saturday from June to September.
Hire a bicycle and enjoy a ride on the lovely dikes along Nakskov Fjord or by the Baltic Sea coast. When cycling along the dike by the Baltic Sea coast from Langø to Rødby, you will come to the majestic landscaped gardens of Peter Hansens Have, inspired by the extensive landscaped gardens of England. One of the largest private collections of plants in Northern Europe is to be found here.
Just outside Nakskov, in the village of Købelev, are the “Grøn Verden” (green world) zoological gardens with biotopes populated by animals, plants, birds and butterflies – a fascinating experience for all the family. Reventlowparken is a delightful park in the grounds of Pederstrup manor, and is now home to the Reventlow museum dedicated to the memory of the great statesman C.D.F. Reventlow.
